The ITAL-CANADIAN SENIORS DROP-IN CENTRE, located at 9111-110 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta consists of a large hall for festivities, rented offices and an accommodating recreation area. The Centre is open to members and drop – ins from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday , and Sundays and statutory holidays closed. In the recreation area, tables for card games are set up and three bocce courts are available for use.
Bocce is a traditional Italian game resembling lawn bowling with some variations. Whereas lawn bowling is played on grass, bocce is played on a smooth packed surface composed of clay and fine sand. There are strict rules governing the game of bocce and these rules are adhered to during the scheduled tournaments that take place in the winter months. When playing for past-time, however, the rules are somewhat relaxed and the emphasis is on enjoying oneself in the company of friends. There is a cost of $2.00 per player per game and a minimum of four people per lane are recommended to make the game interesting . Flat shoes must be worn by the bocce players so as not to cause depressions on the playing surface which will affect the path of the thrown bocce. An experienced and knowledgeable bocce player is available, at no cost, to acquaint new players with the rules of the game and the point marking system.
For Members please see membership page.
The bar offers various refreshments during hours of operation. Our facility is licenced to serve liquor but a multitude of soft drinks-both Canadian and Italian- are available, as are different coffees such as cappuccinos, caffè lattes, espressos, etc. The prices of these vary depending on one’s choice of beverage.
As mentioned above, the Drop-In Centre is serviced and maintained by its members and directors on a volunteer basis and is an excellent example of what can be accomplished by sheer determination and hard work.
